BENGALS

Johnsons weigh in during minicamp

Wide receiver Chad Johnson speaks — just a little. Fullback Jeremi Johnson eats — quite a lot.

Both weighed in, positively and negatively, at Bengals minicamp at Paul Brown Stadium on Friday, June 13.

Chad broke his silence when he spoke, albeit briefly, with reporters in the open locker room session.

His agent, Drew Rosenhaus, told ESPN that Chad — who demanded a trade in April — "will do the honorable thing" and report to training camp on time (July 27).

Chad was the first player in line for wide receiver drills at morning practice. He participated for a half hour, catching several passes, before shutting things down during team drills. He even shared some laughs with teammates on the field and in the locker room.

He seemed to be in a much better mood than he was a day earlier.

"I was in a good mood (Thursday)," Chad said. "I'm happy. I don't have anything to be mad about."

Jeremi, meanwhile, has plenty of reason to be concerned. He's working on the side with strength and conditioning coaches as he attempts to get his weight under control. He's listed at 260, but appears to be 300-plus.

Former tight end Daniel Coats is making a successful transition to fullback as he pushes to replace Jeremi.

"We moved Dan to fullback to compete for the spot," head coach Marvin Lewis said. "We wouldn't have made the move if we didn't think Dan could do it. Hopefully, Jeremi will get himself in position where he can compete. If not, we'll have Dan and the other guys, or whoever else we add, to play fullback."
