CINCINNATI — All is quiet on the Cincinnati Bengals' rookie contract-signing front. But that's about to change.
With administrators, coaches and player personnel staff — along with player agents — coming off vacations, the sense of urgency to get all 10 drafted rookies signed is about to kick in.
After all, training camp at Georgetown (Ky.) College opens July 27.
"I really expect everything to pick up this week," said Dave Butz, the agent for Bengals second-round wide receiver Jerome Simpson.
But there's a not-so-slight problem that could trigger more NFL player holdouts than typical this year.
Since NFL owners voted unanimously two months ago to opt out of the collective bargaining agreement, the 2010 season could be played without a salary cap.
Hammering out rookie contracts that extend to 2010 and beyond could become more difficult.
The possibility of an uncapped year "makes it even harder for us because of the unknown," Dayton agent Ron Todd said. "Some guys are getting deals done, but there's a lot of different options and parameters. You might see more guys holding out this year. It's going to be real tricky."

Why rush! Before signing them you need to find out if you really want them on your team. Im glad there taking there time with these rookies and making sure that they want them on there team and how they will benefit the Cincinnati Bengals.

I am not sure why anybody truly worries about signing players so fast. It is a business and each team signs a contract like any other company hiring an employee with them signing contracts. Guess its the only thing to write about as of now.

The Bengals will get the top picks in camp espicially Keith Rivers and Jerome Simpson who is going to be stud I seen him play personally he went to Costal Carolina which is in South Carolina were I reside the bengal fans are going to love him. I’ll miss Chris Henery but Simpson can be just as important

I wish the Cleveland Browns fans will shut up as bad as we have been in the years you have been worst you guys beat us 1 time since Carson Palmer and Marvin Lewis been there and you guys are celebrating please you guys suck I would take Carson palmer over both of your quarterbacks and Anderson was a fluke last year we are the sleeper of that division this year remember how Kobe was complaining about getting traded from the lakers like Chad was doing were did the Lakers end up HMMMMMMMMMM!!!!!!!!

The bungals will spend this year mired in their newfound mediocrity. I say newfound because before they were horrible. I can’t wait to watch your sorry defense get pushed into the endzone by Jamaal Lewis and the best offensive line in football. At least you have Chad ‘I hate the bengals’ Johnson and T.J. For everyone who thinks that all these rookies are getting signed and that the Bengals are dragging their feet, you are all wrong. Out of the 250 rookies that were selected on draft day, there are only 23 of them who have signed. For all those who can not do math, that is less than 10%. This is the way that it always happens. Why sign all them right away, it is just bad business. Remember football is a business as well as a sport.

You’re the one making idiotic comments. Look at the date on that article. June 10th. The Eagles have all of their picks signed except their 2nd round picks. Most teams have a majority of their picks signed. So get your facts right before you call someone idiotic.

It never ceases to amaze me how Browns fans always find their way onto Bengal sites. An their comments on our sites are always so well thought out and communicated so very well. I guess they have so much time on their hands, i.e. not having a job, and so little else to do, they need to go on other teams websites to show their intellect. Keep up the good work guys. Just an aside, it seems that many Brown fans are also OSU sycophants. There must be additional ingredients in the kool aid.

Folks that are complaining. Will you please STFU! The Bengals have things under control! If you are a real fan, not just a, “well if they’re good I’ll like them fan”. Several teams have not yet signed their picks. I would also wait to see if the a new rookie pay scale will take hold. Why pay out millions more when you may not have too. Over paying rookies that have never played an NFL snap has got to be stopped!

The Bengals are only interested as the Reds in having a “product” on the field. To draw fans and having no hope of a Championship and very little chance of playoffs. Mike Brown is not aggressive enough and Marvin knows if he just sings the company song he is safe. So lets have another year of mediocrity. The thing that is most curious about it all is for a defensive coach the players habits and skills on defense are not even to pro standards. Marvin teach your team to hit and wrap and tackle.

This isn’t an issue at all. The Bengals have always taken their time in signing picks and (for the most part) have done well in recent years. The uncapped year is minimal in the grand scheme of things. People do take vacations… I guess there has to be something to write about during the offseason.

This is stupid. No other team has had a problem with the 2010 uncappd ear. Almost every team but the Bengals have signed numerous draft choices — the Bears have signed 10 already inluding their No. 2 pick. Thee is alo a rookie pool. So there is no possible reason theBbengals have not done so or will not get their people in on time.
