Chad's shoulder needs surgery, but he says he'll play

> Do you think Chad Johnson will have a good season?

CINCINNATI — The Bengals refused to confirm an NFL Network report that wide receiver Chad Johnson has a partially torn labrum in his left shoulder.

Wearing a harness for stability, Johnson claimed Monday, Aug. 25, he needs surgery, but won't get it — that he'll play through the injury and be in the starting lineup at Baltimore on Sept. 7.

"I need surgery, but there's still nothing wrong with me," he said. "I'm not going to have (surgery). For what? I've got a season to play."

Johnson said he spoke with "about 10 guys," including Kellen Winslow II and Donte Stallworth, who endured similar injuries.

"They didn't get surgery," Johnson said. "They played and had successful seasons. I'll be fine."

Injured wideouts Johnson and T.J. Houshmandzadeh (hamstring) haven't worked with quarterback Carson Palmer since the 2007 season finale at Miami.

Johnson said it'll take only "two or three days" to get in sync.

"It's like riding a bike," he said. "Once you get back on it, you can figure it out real fast. When we get back on the field together, we're going to produce. I will be ready to go for the opener. It's going to be exciting. It's going to be a big 'Ocho' day."

for all those hates of c.j. just check how many games he has missed the past couple years, i think it maybe zero, the guy is always hurt, but he plays because he is tough plus he has so much to play for, a great year this year will land him on a great team next year, dolla dolla bills.

If the Washington deal was real, they should have taken it. The injuries aren’t a fluke and while Chad’s antics are probably not as much of a distraction as some people make out, this is a team that too badly needs affirmative models of mental toughness and focus to afford a lot of peripheral silliness. Of late Johnson has been making a lot of difficult circus catches that expose his body rather than running free and that means getting nicked up. They should have sold high.

Grab Chris Henry with one of your last picks. He doesnt play until wk 5 but if C. Johnson is out by then you could have a 2nd wr putting up some pretty decent numbers.

I hope he has a stellar season, BUT I suspect he will get thumped to the turf by someone early in the season and he will be IR.

be careful what you wish for…..chad will ultimately miss the entire season…package him with rudi….and get a grade A wideout…

It is a manageable injury. Remember that K2 is MUCH stronger/tougher (body types differ). I think Chad can play through it but it won’t be easy. It definitely restricted Kellen and you could see the pain he was in after coming off the ground.
