Bengals Notes
Henry practices with team
Tuesday, September 30, 2008
CINCINNATI — The NFL on Monday granted the Bengals a one-week roster exemption for wide receiver Chris Henry, who has completed his four-game league suspension for violating the NFL's Personal Conduct Policy.
Henry is allowed to practice and participate in all team activities until Monday, Oct. 6, without counting against the 53-man roster limit.
For Henry to play at Dallas on Sunday, the club would have to clear a spot on the active roster by Saturday at 4 p.m., according to the NFL.
"He will practice this week," Bengals head coach Marvin Lewis said. "Other than that, we'll have to wait and see. If he's in football condition and learns what to do again, and be on spot and be where he needs to be, then he can be productive."
Roster moves coming
With hamstring injuries to DeDe Dorsey and Kenny Watson, the club could use another tailback.
Look for Dorsey to go on Injured Reserve because his hamstring injury is more severe. That would allow the Bengals to promote James Johnson off the practice squad.
"There is a possibility for us to add another running back, yes, because DeDe should be a few weeks and we're not quite sure where Kenny will be this week," Lewis said.
Down, but not out
Where is this team mentally right now?
"Everybody's disappointed," tight end Reggie Kelly said. "That's pretty much what it is. But it's not despair. It's not, 'We feel like all is lost.' It's just disappointment. We would like to play better and we would like to do better. It hurts. We've just got to keep plugging along."
A true kinship
Bengals quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick feels a kinship with Dallas quarterback Tony Romo.
Both hail from NCAA Division I-AA schools — Fitzpatrick from Harvard and Romo from Eastern Illinois.
"It's just been nice to see a guy on the I-AA level — who didn't get a chance early on — be able to succeed like he has," Fitzpatrick said. "He's played great for the last two years and has continued that this year."
Fitzpatrick wouldn't say he's a mirror image of Romo. After all, Romo is the Cowboys' starter while Fitzpatrick is the Bengals' backup.
"I like watching him play," Fitzpatrick said. "The similarity is that we both move around a little bit. But obviously we're at different points in our career in terms of where he is and where I am. But he is fun to watch."
