BENGALS NOTES
Carson Palmer may end up playing
Tuesday, December 09, 2008
CINCINNATI — Injured Bengals quarterback Carson Palmer wants an opportunity to play again this season, and all indications are he will get it.
Head coach Marvin Lewis said Monday, Dec. 8, that Palmer likely won't play against the Washington Redskins, but Palmer hasn't been ruled out for the final two games against Cleveland or Kansas City.
"Every indication of every football orthopedist that has seen Carson has been there will probably be no need for surgery (on his right elbow)," Lewis said.
Palmer, whose ligament and tendon were detached from the bone on a sack against the New York Giants on Sept. 21, began throwing a football last week for the first time since Oct. 5. He started with 10-, 12- and 15-yard throws.
"He's a little bit beyond that already," Lewis said. "He's done well with everything he has done thus far. He's excited about it, and we'll continue to allow him to throw farther and harder with more regularity.
"He has been cutting loose with it and it's just a matter of keeping things going, day after day after day like an NFL quarterback does, and not have any (pain) issues."
Could he play against the visiting Redskins on Sunday?
"I don't think there's much chance of him playing this week because he has not practiced with us for a while," Lewis added. "He hasn't thrown the ball at the distance and length he needs to yet, so it's unlikely."
Injury update
Right defensive end Antwan Odom (shoulder), strong safety Chinedum Ndukwe (foot) and cornerback David Jones (knee) are healing and could play on Sunday, but backup tailback Chris Perry is questionable at best.
"(Perry) is dealing with a groin strain; he missed some time last week," Lewis said. "He aggravated it a little bit in the game, so we'll see how he is."
Returning vets?
Is it a priority to get wide receiver T.J. Houshmandzadeh and right tackle Stacy Andrews signed for next year?
"We'd like to have them both back," Lewis said. "Whether we can afford both of them within the (salary) cap, and what they're looking for, I can't tell you that.
"They still have a lot of football left in them, which is also important. I think they have the ability to produce at a high level, even a higher level than they are."
'Big game'
Lewis was the assistant head coach and defensive coordinator for the Redskins (2002) prior to becoming the Bengals head coach.
Is Sunday's game personal?
"Every time I go out there on Sunday, it's personal," he said. "Do you think I just go out there because it's fun? No. Every game is personal. There's not one more personal than the other. It's a big game for us."

at this point Carson would not be an upgrade over my boy Fitzpatrick. they would not have a better chance of winning and it would just jeopardize Carson’s career. is this season what you want to see happen for the next 5 years?

Here’s the real deal. Bengals’ cheap-a$$ owner Mike Brown doesnt want anything to do with a top 3 pick in the draft, so he figures, hey let Carson play, maybe they’ll win another game or two, and he wont have to shell out $30+mill guaranteed on a $50 mill contract.

let him play against the browns and the chiefs - they may win those 2 games and then there is a possibility that it could save mike brown millions of dollars - the higher the draft pick the more it is going to cost him to sign the pick and you know mike brown it is all about the money; he doesn’t care if he has a winner - the bengals are his bread and butter unlike other owners who have the teams as sort of a hobby

For those youngs pups who feel compelled to name calling: The Bengals since their inception in 1968 have always been somewhat a competitive football team. They made the playoffs in their 3rd year; Seasonally won 5-6 games their early years. They have always been threat to beat any team and has played in 2 Super Bowls. What the bloggers are seeing is a non-competitive team much like the Lions and the bloggers here do care. That why they are blogging. This Browns fan since the 60’s can see that.

having the same players for years is great if you have a young and talented team. this group has won more than 8 games ONE TIME. they need to clean house starting with ocho cinco, marvin lewis, and the entire defense. they can either lose for the next 3 years thinking it will get better, and then rebuilt. OR rebuild now and be good in the next decade.
and about the main story, no way that carson should play this year. give him some extra reps in preseason.

It doesnt matter if he plays this year or not at this point. Mike Brown needs to hire a general manager, which we all know is NOT going to happen!!!! And they need a new offensive line coach. The Bengals have so many issues with their team,it isnt any funny. This is going to cause season tickets holders like myself, NOT to renew their tickets next year. Something definitely has to be done!!!!!

adding on…. we will have some good draft picks coming in this year on top of everyone healthy and the weak schedule to hopefully and build some confidience off of. For the people crying and acting like my 12 year old sister. Find another team. Its not rocket science.

What a bunch of doosh bags. Nobody was complaing about the team 3 years ago when we won the division. We basically have the same team minus a couple players. The bengals have 21 players on IR the most in the history of football. What makes you think we would be competetive with a 2nd team bunch against the tough teams we played. Do you guys really know football. I think things will be different with a healthy team. We have a weak schedule next year playing the NFC north.

Rabbitt; Paul Brown would not field a team like this.. It’s Mike (Paul’s Son, you know the attorney).

He plays, he gets hurt. He is too fragile to take 10 hits a game. This offensive line is nothing but a bunch of clowns. They seriously want to keep Stacey Andrews? Trade Chad for a 2nd round pick. Do everything possible to keep TJ. Take the OT from Alabama in the first round, a C and RB in the 2nd. This years crop of DTs isn’t very good, so take the best one in the 3rd round.

I don’t know why he would want to play? He’s willing to risk further injury to possibly finish with 3 wins. I would beg to get out of here. They aren’t going to pay to keep TJ for next year among others but they’ll still hold onto druggie Henry and OUCHO STINKO. Next year will be another carbon copy of this one, shouldn’t surprise anyone!!!

Hey lets UC Bearcats play the bengals remaining football schedule. That way they can get professional experience before they play their Bowl game in January. At least they stand a better chance at winning than the professional team that Paul Brown has on the field right now. Plus, UC has a winning record is actually going to a BOWL game!

I think Carson and the rest of the Bungles should play this year- in a different city. Cincinnati would be better served if the Bungles left Cincy for say, Oklahoma or North Dakota. Why? Because just like the Bungles, nothing happens in either place. Boring, just like the bungles. There is only 1 professional football team in Ohio, and it isn’t in Cincinnati…

I feel Carson should not play this year there is no reason for him to play. This is a violent game for everyone that steps on the playing field, no one is even sure what is damaged in his arm. With one good jerk by a 330 pound defensive or being fallen upon and he could potentialy end his career. Has he even ran the offense in practice? Again this is their franchise player.

No, I don’t think Palmer should play any more this year. The season is in the tank and with our porous offensive line, why take any chances for him to receive a worse injury? Let him sit.
