Browns' QB drama heating up
Quinn's a quick study, but Frye has experience and Anderson has best arm.

BEREA — Everyone, it seems, has an opinion on who should start at quarterback for the Cleveland Browns.
ESPN analyst Ron Jaworski, the long-ago Philadelphia Eagles QB, this week said he thinks rookie first-round draft choice Brady Quinn would be the wise choice because the Browns have "nothing else."
Extras
"Well, if Ron has a team, he can put him on that team," Browns coach Romeo Crennel said bemusedly after Wednesday morning's minicamp practice. "And you can tell Ron I said that."
• Charlie Frye has the most experience of the three candidates, but he threw 17 interceptions in 13 games last season, his first as a full-time starter.
• Quinn possesses the highest profile, having starred at Notre Dame. But a contract holdout is possible, which could set him back a couple of weeks in training camp.
• Derek Anderson has the best arm of the group, as these minicamp sessions clearly have confirmed.
"They're all struggling," Crennel said. "We have a lot of offense in and we haven't really homed in on it well enough yet. We'll see who can pick it up the best. This young kid (Quinn) is learning pretty quickly."
Quickly enough to take the first snaps of his career Sept. 9 against the Pittsburgh Steelers? That's what training camp will be all about.

With a revamped offensive line and what looks to be an improved running game with Jamal Lewis, I would say throw Quinn in the mix as the starter (after about three weeks). There will be a contract hold out, so Quinn will have some catching up to do. However, he is the QB of the future, so give him the reps.

Yet, another typical Bengalfan comment.

I think the next time a Brown’s fan gives a sanctimonious response to a Bengals fan they should remember The Drive, 0 Super Bowl appearances, Art Model, and the perpetual rebuilding mode of your team.

‘If it’s brown, flush it down’…Give me a break! If it weren’t for Paul “BROWN”, Cincinnati would have no team. There would be no Paul “BROWN” stadium. I think the idiots that keep saying that should remember that it is the “BROWN’S” that they should be honoring and respecting. So the next time you say “If it’s brown flush it down” remember you are disgracing the man that brought football to Cincinnati.

Crennel has proven himself reluctant to start rookies. I believe that it will be either anderson or frye starting the season, with quinn riding the bench. carson turned out to be a fantastic qb with that strategy, so it makes sense that we should copy it. better o-line play will not make it as necessary for us to throw the ball as much as we should be able to run the ball better and more, control the clock, and keep the defense rested.

and to the bung”hole” fan who says we go 4-12? u dont watch football much do yea? browns should go 8-8. why? the line is better than any line we have tried to put in since 1999! also, j.lewis is a obvious upgrade! can u say winslow, edwards, juervicous, wilson? plenty of targets who ever starts at qb. i see frye playing well and quinn getting nod in 2008 when coach cowher comes to cleveland!

hey, who really cares what bungals fans think? i mean geez can they win more games than players been arrested? carson palmer struggle toward the end of last year. im not worried about cincy and there bandwagon fans! as for the browns they have 3 young quarter backs. frye is the incumbent but hasnt showed much because of a weak line and a few drops from edwards and exbrown northcutt. i say frye has alot to prove and in his 3rd year he should grasp the job or lose it to quinn or anderson.

I don’t care who they start, as long as they come down to Cincinnati and beat the living crap out of the bumgals. I’ve had all that I can stand of the growing population of bandwagon bengal fans. If it weren’t for my job, I’d move out of this town just to get away from it all.
Boo-Dey! Go Browns!

People can say what they want about Fry, but it is hard to be a good quarterback when you are running for your life at every snap of the ball. Thank goodness that problem hase been alleviated, now lets see what the GUTSY QB can do. If he can’t produce, then it will be time to look at someone else. Hold on to your hats Bengals fans, you just might be in for a couple of big surprises this year. After all with “no O line” the Browns were in most of the games last year by less than 10 points.

As far as Bengals fans are concrned I wouldnt be mocking Browns QB talent, you’re one Kamerion Wimbley leg sack away from having a nobody behind center…..Charlie, Derek, or BQ could all win 6 games this year, sure Carson is great but after that your a big goose egg in the win column…

Frye is still the incumbent from last year. Even before they drafted Quinn, (which was a pleasant surprise) Charlie has the prowess needed for the position. Chud has been hard at work catering the offense to Frye’s strengths (mobility), so it’s off to the races.

The Browns were, are and will always be dreadful so who cares who’s throwing interceptions for them? Why this franchise was even brought back instead of a expansion franchise being awarded to a livable city is a mystery to me. What’s the next loser to be reincarnated, the Edsel?

Frye should be the starter. He is the only QB on the roster that has actually started and won a game. Derek Anderson has a cannon of an arm but besides one half of the KC game (a game in which Frye had his best half of football before getting hurt) hasn’t shown a lot. Unless Anderson really beats him out of a job and by that I mean that he is a clear cut winner, then Frye should start.

As a Bengals fan I couldn’t be happier with the level of talent at the quarterback position for the Brown’s. Quinn has zero significant wins in his career and Frye is a typical MAC level quarterback. Here’s hoping it continues.

Also, given his experience and the possiblity of a Quinn holdout, Frye should get the job.
