Browns notes
Steinbach leaves practice with knee injury
Wednesday, August 08, 2007
BEREA — The Browns escaped the first week of training camp with only a few nicks, but now the injuries are coming in bunches.
Of most concern Tuesday was the knee problem that forced left guard Eric Steinbach to leave practice early.
Extras
"He fell on it," head coach Romeo Crennel said. "I would say he bruised it."
There was no official diagnosis given. Steinbach signed a seven-year, $49 million contract in the offseason.
Missing practice entirely were veteran linebackers Willie McGinest and Matt Stewart. They visited doctors for back and shoulder injuries, respectively, Crennel said.
McGinest flew to Los Angeles to see about a condition that has bothered him since his days with the New England Patriots. "He was up and walking around," Crennel said. "We'll just have to see."
On other fronts, receiver Tim Carter has a thumb problem that kept him out of practice, guard Isaac Sowells is sidelined with a concussion, and cornerback Kenny Wright has a groin injury.
Other than that, everyone's fine.
News blackout
If Brady Quinn practices and nobody sees it, does it count?
Something to ponder as the former Notre Dame quarterback takes the field today for the first time since agreeing to contract terms Tuesday.
The Browns will practice at Cleveland Browns Stadium, but the workout is closed to fans and media. Originally, they were scheduled to practice at the stadium last Friday on what was to be "Family Fun Night." But a plumbing crisis during a Kenny Chesney concert left the stadium uninhabitable.
Feeling flushed
The stadium is expected to be ready for Saturday night's preseason opener against the Chiefs, but the Browns will have hundreds of employees flush toilets at a designated time today just to make sure everything works.
