Browns fans cheer Colts' playoff defeat

Staff Writer

Tuesday, January 15, 2008

Forgive me for the blatant partiality, but I'm so happy the Indianapolis Colts lost to San Diego on Sunday that I went into the garage and tooted the car horn.

And to rub it in, the Chargers did it without running back LaDainian Tomlinson most of the game, with tight end Antonio Gates hurting the entire game and without quarterback Philip Rivers for half the game.

Extras

Take that, Tony Dungy.

It has been nearly three weeks, but my cheeks and ears are still red from what Dungy did the final week of the season. While the Cleveland Browns watched — needing the Colts to beat the inferior Tennessee Titans for the Browns to make the playoffs — Dungy dumped the game.

Yeah, he dumped it. He played his regulars for one quarter and lost.

Broadcaster Al Michaels said as the Colts-Titans game unfolded, "This has to be so agonizing for the Cleveland Browns to watch."

The Browns? How about their coast-to-coast fans? In Cleveland, it went from Believeland to Deceiveland, deceived by Dungy and the Colts.

They didn't even try to win.

Dungy, a great man and a great coach, received no Esther Price candy for Christmas from Ohio. He should be ashamed of himself. He should have been required to bench Peyton Manning after the first quarter Sunday. Fortunately, the Chargers didn't need it.

Now Manning can make some more awful commercials.
