Cueto has strained right elbow; Bailey sprains knee

Staff reports

Monday, August 25, 2008

CINCINNATI — Reds rookie pitcher Johnny Cueto was examined today, Aug. 25, by team medical director Dr. Timothy Kremchek. It was determined that Cueto has a posterior strain of his right elbow, possibly due to hyperextension of that elbow.

He will be examined in Cincinnati again Friday and will miss his next start, scheduled for Saturday against the Giants.

Cueto left Sunday's start at Colorado after three innings.

He has an 8-12 record with a 4.65 earned run average. He has started 27 games and has struck out 146 and walked 58 in 155 innings.

In other Reds news, pitcher Homer Bailey has suffered a mild sprain of the medial collateral ligament of his right knee.

He will miss his next start for Class AAA Louisville, scheduled for Thursday, and will be evaluated again by Kremchek at the end of the week.
