KETTERING — William "W.G." Nelson, Jr. will be the new dean for academic affairs at Kettering College of Medical Arts, assuming the position this summer after the current academic year.
Nelson has taught the last six years in the graduate School of Education at La Sierra University in Riverside, Calif., where he has chaired the administration and leadership department since 2006. He replaces Norman Wendth, who became president of Atlantic Union College last year.

Kettering College is Kettering Medical Center's school for health sciences and emphasizes holistic patient care. It offers certificate programs, associate and Bachelor's degrees, and a Master's for physician assistants. Eighty percent of graduates stay in Ohio, most of them in the Dayton area.
"I was much impressed by Kettering College's spirit of place during my visit there," Nelson said. "It is clear to me that it is a positive educational and health care environment where good things are happening."
Nelson earned his bachelor's degree in history at Atlantic Union College in South Lancaster, Mass., in 1972; his master's in education at Worcester (Mass.) State College in 1978, and his doctorate in education from Ball State University in Muncie, Ind., in 1993. After working as a secondary-school principal, he moved to college administration at Southwestern Adventist University in Keene, Texas, in 1988-94, and Walla Walla (Wash.) College as president from 1994 to 2001.
