Local grocer makes deli ordering easier

WASHINGTON TWP. — Dorothy Lane Market's Washington Square location became the first of the chain's stores to install the S4G Deli Kiosk from ADUSA Inc.

The self-service deli kiosk allows customers to order items from the deli and eliminate most if not all of the time spent waiting in line. Customers place their order at the kiosk and then continue shopping. After the order has been completed by the deli staff, it is labeled with the customer's order number and set aside in a cooler designated for kiosk orders. Shoppers then pick up their order from the cooler anytime during their grocery run.

"A lot of customers are thrilled with it because of the time saving," said Amy Brinkmoeller, Management Information Systems director at the Washington Square Dorothy Lane Market.

In addition to saving shoppers time by allowing them to circumvent the queue, the system will also keep track of customers' order histories if they swipe their DLM cards when they place their orders, Brinkmoeller said. The next time the card is used at the kiosk, recommendations will be made based on past order history.

The kiosk was installed Monday, June 23, and so far response has been positive, Brinkmoeller said. If the pilot phase goes well, Dorothy Lane Market will introduce the kiosk in its other stores. Contact this reporter at ahazlett@DaytonDailyNews.com.
