Film premier of 'Allah Made Me Funny' at UD
Wednesday, November 19, 2008
"Did you hear the one about the Muslim, the Indian and the African American?" is the subtitle of a film premiering in Dayton.
"Allah Made Me Funny" follows three Muslim comedians on stage and off as they — through knee-slapping humor — reveal what it's really like to be a Muslim in America.
The one-time viewing is sponsored by Muslim Youth of Ohio (www.myohioonline.com), the U.D. Muslim Student Association and the Dayton International Peace Museum.
In 2004 three Muslim comics hit the road for a comedy tour. Hundreds of performances and four continents later, the trio's comedy went from stage to screen in a documentary produced and directed by Andrea Kalin.
In the film, Mohammed Amer, a Kuwait-born Palestinian-American; Azhar Usman, a Chicagoan of Indian parentage; and Preacher Moss, a black Muslim convert, tell stories and launch one-liners about their lives and families.
"Allah Made Me Funny" will be shown on Friday, Nov. 21, at 7 p.m. in the Sears Recital Hall in the Jessie Phillips Humanities Building at the University of Dayton. It is free and open to the community.
