Oxford was named among the "50 Best Places To Live" in the April issue of Men's Journal magazine.

Listed in a section called "Best Commuter Towns," Oxford found a place among small cities that have carved a niche apart from the sprawl of a nearby metropolitan area.

Extras

Men's Journal praised the walkable nature and brick architecture of Oxford as well as the Miami University campus. The magazine also touted the Uptown cafes, bars and boutiques.

The botanical gardens and Hueston Woods State Park also scored points for the city.

Oxford was placed among the best commuter towns because of its proximity to Cincinnati, Dayton and the interstate.

Mayor Jerome Conley said he was very pleased to hear the news.

"It's just great to see that they have recognized the place we love and recognize the quality of life we're trying to build here," he said.

The magazine recognized four other "Best Commuter Towns," which included two, which are accessible by ferry. The best overall city to live in was Boulder, Colo.

Best Commuter Towns

Hingham, Mass. —35-minute ferry commute from Boston.

Parkville, Mo. — 11 miles from Kansas City.

Vashon Island, Wash. — 35-minute ferry commute from Seattle.

Bandera, Texas — 54 miles from San Antonio.

Oxford, Ohio — 35 miles from Cincinnati.

What do you think of Oxford's ranking?

Vashon Island is rightfully named one of the top commuter towns.

Although relatively unknown, with a population of about 11,000 regularly, swelling to 15,000 in the Summer, Vashon has much to offer.

MU students should feel greatful to have the opportunity to call this wonderful town home for their 4 years while attending school at Miami. If it weren’t for the full-time residents there wouldn’t be anyone to accomodate them during their stay. Oxford is a great community and a wonderful place to call home! I’m thrilled to hear that it was recognized and viewed in a positive light. As for the MU student who wrote in - Go Home!

As a student of miami university, having lived here for 4 years, I feel that oxford wouldnt be s**t without Miami University. I also feel that there are not many commuters living in oxford, its 80% students whose commute consists of walking 10 minutes from their dorm room to class. Take away MU, and oxfords got nothing!
