Top NCR Corp. executive leaving company

DAYTON — Peter M. Lieb has resigned as NCR Corp.’s senior vice president, general counsel and secretary to take a similar position with Aon Corp., a Chicago-based provider of insurance and reinsurance services.

Lieb, one of NCR’s senior executives, is leaving the company effective July 15, according to a NCR filing Wednesday, July 1, with the Securities and Exchange Commission.

Lieb, 53, had joined NCR in 2006. . . .

Local company gets new owner

SIDNEY — Custom Support Solutions, a just-in-time inventory and fulfillment provider, has been purchased by Kenakore Solutions, according to a news release.

Custom Support will assume the Kenakore Solutions name, the news release states.

Robert Schwab, president and founder of CSS, will become executive vice president, sales and marketing, and will become a director for Kenakore.

With the acquisition, Perrysburg-based Kenakore, a provider of supply-chain services, will operate facilities in Perrysburg, Sidney and Van Wert, the news release states.

ATSG executive retires, to serve as adviser

WILMINGTON — Air Transport Services Group Inc., owner of cargo airlines and aircraft management and maintenance businesses, said Peter Fox has retired as its chief commercial officer, but will serve as an adviser throughout 2009.

Fox’s retirement took effect Tuesday, June 30.

Fox, 60, was president and chief executive officer of Cargo Holdings International Inc. . . .

Anthem: Anti-fraud programs have saved $19 million

Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield said its anti-fraud programs saved members and clients in Ohio more than $12 million in 2008, and more than $7 million so far this year.

Anthem said its parent, Indianapolis-based WellPoint, recovered almost $75 million through anti-fraud programs in 2008. . . .

Fitness center closes

BUTLER TWP., Montgomery County — Fitworks Fitness Center at 7070 Miller Lane will close for good at the end of business Wednesday, July 1, the club’s headquarters announced Wednesday.

Fitworks spokeswoman Tami Lewis said the Cleveland-based chain had been shopping for a more modern location for the club but couldn’t find anything suitable by the time its lease ran out on Miller Lane.

“We pretty much had no choice” but to close, Lewis said.

Lewis said the club’s 1,700 members can continue their workouts uninterrupted, however, at nearby Premier Fitness, 8423 N. . . .

LexisNexis offers help for unemployed lawyers

NEW YORK — LexisNexis said it has begun a program to provide free marketing services, networking and employment resources to lawyers who have been laid off by their law firms because of the economic downturn.

The program, called “Lend a Hand,” is being offered through the company’s Martindale-Hubbell business.

Lawyers eligible are those who recently worked in the United States for a law firm of more than 50 attorneys and are currently unemployed. . . .

Ohio hospitals doled out $2.2B in charity in 2007

The state’s hospitals doled out a record $2.2 billion of charity and discounted care and services in 2007, according to the Ohio Hospital Association’s newly released community benefit report.

It’s the first time the amount exceeded $2 billion, according to the association.

That amount includes:

• $893.5 million in charity care

• $835.7 million in Medicaid subsidization (the difference between what Medicaid pays for services and the actual cost that hospitals incur)

• $1.04 billion in community benefit activities.

More than half of the free care provided by hospitals — $491.7 million — went to patients with incomes above the federal poverty limit.

OHA said 18 of the state’s 100 largest employers are hospitals or health systems; 333,000 people work in Ohio hospitals.

Ohio ranks fourth nationwide in the number of teaching hospitals and health systems.

Iftikhar Ahmad, who has operated Dayton’s two airports for the city since October 2006, was interviewed Tuesday, June 30, in Jacksonville, Fla., for the job of operating that city’s four-airport system.
