CEDARVILLE — A student game involving hidden chocolates led to a bomb squad-led investigation of a suspicious package at Cedarville University on Monday, Oct. 20.

A university staff member found a package, featuring markings in gibberish and no other label, in the Dixon Ministry Center, about 3:30 p.m., university spokesman John Davis said.

The center is a building on the main campus where the university holds a daily chapel session. The Baptist university of about 3,000 students is located on 400 acres in northern Greene County.

The staff member alerted campus safety, which contacted local authorities, including the Dayton Police Bomb Squad.

Officials moved the package to a parking lot near the school's golf driving range and waited for the bomb squad.

It was later learned the package contained nothing more than chocolates.

Davis said a campus-wide e-mail about the package prompted a group of students to come forward and inform officials that the package was part of a game involving a search for it.

Davis said school officials turned the investigation over to local authorities.
