He finished the night with 7,622 passing yards, besting Art Schlichter’s school record of 7,547 yards that had stood since 1981.
Barrett threw three touchdown passes, two to Johnnie Dixon and one to Binjimin Victor.

Mike Weber got the scoring started with a 1-yard touchdown run just less than five minutes into the game. He scored again from three yards out on the first play of the second quarter, then Barrett took over.
The Texas native completed his three touchdown passes on three different types of throws.
He struck first on a rainbow throw to Dixon, who was running free down the field after a scrambling Barrett drew the attention of the Rutgers secondary. That play covered 70 yards.
With 4:08 to go in the second quarter, Barrett hooked up with Dixon again, this time on a short throw over the middle that let Dixon do most of the work. The speedy junior picked up a block and tip-toed down the sideline to the goal line, covering 39 yards in all.
In the third quarter, Barrett faked a short throw then threw a 23-yard fade to Binjimin Victor, putting a ball up high where only his 6-foot-4 target could get it.
Dwayne Haskins took over at quarterback after that and found Demario McCall on a wheel route for a 35-yard score early in the fourth quarter.
McCall scored Ohio State’s eighth touchdown of the night on a 48-yard run with 8:06 left in the fourth.
He ended up leading the Buckeyes in rushing with 103 yards.
J.K. Dobbins added 53 while Weber had 44 on the ground.
The Buckeyes (4-1, 2-0 Big Ten) rolled to a 35-0 halftime lead, outgaining Rutgers 336-77 in the first half.
The Scarlet Knights (1-4, 0-2) were coming off a respectable performance in a 27-17 loss at Nebraska, but they are still looking for their first win over an NCAA FBS team.
They beat Morgan State 65-0 in week three.
Ohio State has outscored Rutgers 219-24 since the Scarlet Knights joined the Big Ten in 2014.
The Buckeyes will be back in action Oct. 7 at home against Maryland.
