Bengals sign punter, waive wide receiver

The Cincinnati Bengals on Wednesday signed punter Will Monday and waived wide receiver Jake Kumerow under the waived/injured category.

Kumerow, a first-year player who spent the last two seasons on the practice squad, suffered an ankle injury in the first practice of training camp July 28. If he clears waivers, he will revert to the Bengals injured reserve list. Kumerow caught four passes for 67 yards last year during the preseason and had six receptions for 65 yards in the 2015 preseason.

His presence will help the Bengals give the punt returners — including first-round pick John Ross, who is getting a crash course in fielding punts — a chance to field move live punts instead ones coming off the machine without taxing starting punter Kevin Huber.
