Bol Bol, the nation’s No. 1 center for the Class of 2018, led top-ranked Findlay Prep (Nev.) to a 50-48 defeat of Huntington Prep (W.Va.) in the nightcap of Friday’s night’s opening doubleheader in the 16th annual Premier Health Flyin’ to the Hoop at Fairmont’s Trent Arena.
Spire Academy defeated host Fairmont 80-70 in the opener.
The son of former NBA fan favorite Manute Bol, now deceased, Bol Bol delivered as expected from a 7-foot-3 highly sought-after recruit. He won over fans in the pregame warmup with the Bol signature easy-going manner and knock-kneed towering presence. He followed that up by scoring a game-high 18 points, hitting 6 of 10 shots to go with six free throws. He also had eight rebounds, two blocks and a chippiness to his game that eluded his shot-blocking father.

Thought to have been won over by University of Kentucky coach John Calipari, Bol instead recently signed with Oregon.
Findlay teammate Reggie Chaney added 10 points. He signed with Arkansas.
Huntington couldn’t get a 3-pointer at the buzzer to go down. The Irish were led by 5-11 guard Johnathan McGriff’s 14 points and five rebounds. Jaemyn Brakefield, a 6-9 sophomore who’s regarded as West Virginia’s to prospect for the Class of 2020, had six points and nine rebounds.
Spire is the only team of the opening four that will play again. Located at Geneva, Ohio, the Lakehawks also will play Hilliard Bradley at 3 p.m. on Saturday.
