Burfict fined for flipping off fans

For the second time this season and fifth in the last 12 months, Cincinnati Bengals linebacker Vontaze Burfict has earned a fine from the league office, this time for flipping off fans at Paul Brown Stadium during Sunday's game against the Bills.

Burfict was one of three players fined in the game, with his indecent gesture costing him $12,154 for unsportsmanlike conduct.

Buffalo’s Jerry Hughes and James Ihedigbo were each fined $9,115 for unnecessary roughness.

The league fined Burfict $75,000 for stomping on the league of New England running back LeGarrette Blount on Oct. 16.

He also was suspended three games for multiple violations of the player safety rules following his hit on Pittsburgh wide receiver Antonio Brown in last year’s AFC wild-card game. The suspension cost Burfict $534,000 in lost wages.

There also was a $50,000 fine for a hit to a defenseless player (Baltimore tight end Maxx Williams) on Jan. 3, 2016, and a $69,400 fine for three separate incidents against the Pittsburgh Steelers on Dec. 13, 2015.

The league fined Burfict $25,000 for twisting the ankles of Carolina quarterback Cam Newton and tight end Greg Olsen in 2014.

And they were three fines during his rookie season of 2013 — $21,000 for spearing New York Jets wide receiver Stephen Hill; $21,000 for a hit on a defenseless player (Green Bay wide receiver James Jones); and $10 for striking Green Bay offensive lineman Ryan Taylor in the groin.
