One day after a foul ball injured a young fan at Yankee Stadium, the Cincinnati Reds announced they will install additional netting at Great American Ball Park next season.
The plan is for new netting to extend to the end of each dugout. The existing netting behind home plate will be replaced.
This work will be finished before the Reds open the 2018 season against the Washington Nationals.
According to the team, netting present now meets the guidelines established by Major League Baseball, and the new netting will go beyond them.
If they need to consult anyone on putting up new safeguards, they only need to look north to Dayton, where the Dragons installed extensive new netting late last season.
A ball measured at 105 miles per hour off the bat of former Red Todd Frazier (now a Yankee) hit the fan, who reportedly was attending a Yankees game with her grandparents.
