Cleveland Browns claim Ohio State alum Tyvis Powell

Tyvis Powell is coming home.

The former Ohio State safety was claimed off waivers from Seattle by the Cleveland Browns on Monday.

Powell, a Bedford native, played eight games as a rookie for the Seahawks this past season after being signed as a free agent.

He started at safety for the 2014 national champion Buckeyes and was one of team’s most outgoing and popular players during his time in Columbus.

The 6-2, 211-pounder showed a knack for being in the right place at the right time, too, as he picked off a desperation Alabama pass in the Sugar Bowl and had a game-clinching interception of a two-point conversion attempt at Michigan in ’13.

He becomes the second former Buckeye on the Browns roster, joining receiver Terrelle Pryor.

The team hasn’t drafted an Ohio State player since Brian Robiskie in the second round in 2009.
