Dayton women picked second in A-10 poll

Three Flyers earn preseason honors

The Dayton Flyers women’s basketball team was picked to finish tied for second in the Atlantic 10 preseason poll released Tuesday at Media Day in Richmond, Va.

Saint Louis is the preseason favorite. It earned nine of the 14 first-place votes cast by the conference’s head coaches. Duquesne received three-first place votes and tied Dayton for second place in the poll. George Washington received two first-place votes and was picked fourth.

Virginia Commonwealth, Fordham, Richmond, St. Joseph’s, Rhode Island, St. Bonaventure, George Mason, La Salle, Davidson and Massachusetts followed.

Dayton junior guard Jenna Burdette made the A-10 preseason first team along with George Washington’s Caira Washington, Rhode Island’s Charise Wilson, Richmond’s Janelle Hubbard and Saint Louis’ Jackie Kemph.

Dayton senior guard Kelley Austria made the second team and was joined by Duquesne’s Kadri-Ann Lass and Amadea Szamosi, La Salle’s Amy Griffin and Saint Louis’ Sadie Stipanovich.

Dayton’s Saicha Grant-Allen made the third team. Joining her were Davidson’s Mackenzie Latt, George Washington’s Hannah Schaible, St. Bonaventure’s Mariah Ruff and St. Joseph’s Chelsea Woods.

Austria also made the all-defensive team with Lass, Washington, Wilson and La Salle’s Jasmine Alston.

The Flyers play an exhibition game against Grand Valley State at 2 p.m. Nov. 6 at UD Arena and open the season at 2 p.m. Nov. 13 against Quinnipiac.
