Fairfield standout impresses in spring football at Michigan State

Josiah Scott was among one of the notable performers during spring football at Michigan State.

An early enrollee from Fairfield, Scott had eight tackles and an interception in the spring game Saturday in East Lansing.

It was the cap of a strong spring that has LandOf10.com projecting the Spartans' starting cornerbacks this fall to be Scott and Vayante Copeland, a junior from Thurgood Marshall.

After the game, Michigan State coach Mark Dantonio compared Scott to a former Michigan State All-American who is now a member of the Cincinnati Bengals.

"He's got a lot of that Darqueze Dennard-type intangibles that go along with the way he runs, the ball skills," Dantonio said, per MLive.com. "He's a very good tackler.

“He’s put himself in a position to start for us right now, as a true freshman. And that’s not easy to do. That’s been a big positive for us.”

Among the fans in the stands were a group from Fairfield, including Indians head coach Jason Krause.

Michigan State is recruiting current Fairfield juniors Malik Vann, a four-star defensive end, and Jackson Carman, a five-star offensive tackle.
