Major League Baseball teams have found plenty to like on the Wright State baseball team's roster.

Five Raiders have been selected in the MLB draft, which started Thursday. The number is a record for the program, which has grown from the dominant baseball team in the Horizon League to a team heavily competitive in the regionals and able to take on power conference teams across the country.

Drafted since Thursday:

  • Sean Murphy, a junior catcher, who was selected in the third round by the Oakland Athletics
  • Jesse Scholtens, the senior pitcher and staff ace who threw a perfect game against the Dayton Flyers. He was drafted in the ninth round by the San Diego Padres.
  • Mitchell Roman, the team's junior shortstop and spark plug was picked in the 12th round by the Chicago White Sox.
  • Robby Sexton, senior left-handed pitcher, returned from Tommy John surgery last year, to lead the Raiders to a win over Western Michigan in the NCAA Regional at Louisville. He was picked in the 14th round by the Boston Red Sox.
  • Ryan Fucci, a senior center fielder, was drafted in the 25th round by the Seattle Mariners.

Wright State is expected to have a solid roster returning next season, though head coach Greg Lovelady has interest from multiple programs. SB Nation reported Saturday Lovelady is Purdue's leading candidate to fill its opening for a head baseball coach.
