Flyin’ Game 1: Fairmont 61, Crestwood Prep (Ont.) 55, final

Kellan Bochenek hit consecutive 3-pointers and a free throw and Ryan Hall added three straight free throws as Fairmont mounted a 10-2 game-ending run to defeat Crestwood Prep (Ontario) 61-55 in the opener of the 17th annual Premier Health Flyin’ to the Hoop opener at Trent Arena on Friday night.

Hall had 28 points, eight rebounds, five assists and three steals as Fairmont won its second straight and improved to 11-4. Bochenek was good for 21 points, four rebounds and two assists.

• Crestwood should have had an eighth grader in its lineup. However, Elijah Fisher is out at least two more weeks while recovering from a hip injury.

That means two things: The 6-5 wing is a high flier and he’ll also miss Sunday’s matchup against host Middletown in the debut of the alternative King Classic at Wade E. Miller Arena.

It might be overblown hyperbole, but Fisher is “considered the best middle school player in the world,” according to a Flyin’ program profile. Too bad we couldn’t have made a judgment call on that.
