5 Flyin’ to the Hoop highlights you might have missed

Another fun weekend of high school hoops at Trent Arena is in the books as the 2017 Flyin’ to the Hoop came to a conclusion Monday.

Here are some of the top moments in case you weren’t able to keep track of them all:

1. Gary Trent Jr. showed why he is such a coveted recruit.

The five-star shooting guard and son of the man once known as "Shaq of the MAC" put on a show for Prolific Prep. He scored 33 points Monday as the California school handed Trotwood-Madison its first loss. (Read more from Tom Archdeacon.)

2. Dane Goodwin also made a name for himself.

The son of 1980s UD standout Damon Goodwin, the Upper Arlington junior equalled Garfield Heights' point total in a 62-34 Golden Bears domination Saturday.

The younger Goodwin plans to sign with Ohio State this fall along with Darius Bazley of Princeton and Justin Ahrens of Versailles.

3. Alter made some history by winning the first girls’ game in Flyin’ history.

Libby Bazelak had 22 points as the Knights topped St. Joseph's Academy of Cleveland.

Braxtin Miller added 19 points for the two-time defending state champions, who won their sixth straight game.

4. Centerville won as an Elk reached a personal milestone.

Keegan Saben scored 21 points as in Centerville's 77-66 win over Cleveland Heights.

He surpassed 1,000 career points in the outing.

5. Another Ohio State recruit has big goals.

Darius Bazley had a double-double (11 points, 10 rebounds) as Princeton lost to Marietta (Ga.) Wheeler, but what he had to say after the game was more interesting.

The 6-9 guard who is committed to Ohio State declared his desire to play like National Player of the Year Evan Turner when he dons the scarlet and gray.
