Football playoffs: Regional semifinal pairings for area teams

Here’s the Week 12, regional semifinals schedule for area high school football playoff teams. All games will be played at 7:30 p.m., Friday, Nov. 10. The Ohio High School Athletic Association announced neutral sites on Sunday.

Several factors determine where games are played: field surface, spectator seating, lighting quality, locker room size and distance from the field, available parking, a separate locker room for officials and even press box size and accommodations.

It’s not mandatory, but most games at this point in the postseason are held on artificial surfaces. Also, the OHSAA tries to land a stadium that is halfway between each participating team. Schools must be willing to host a game to be considered.

Teams that win in this round advance to the Week 13 regional finals. After that, two more postseason weeks remain: the state semifinals and state championships.

The state title games return to Stark County at the new Tom Benson Hall of Fame Stadium in Canton from Nov. 30-Dec. 2. This is a super-sized, NFL-quality structure that was built on the site of Canton’s former Fawcett Stadium and next to the NFL Hall of Fame.
