Cam Newton: I'm a 'sore loser'

Cam Newton, in his first comments following his curt Super Bowl 50 post-game press conference, says he is in fact a "sore loser."

Newton, who gave short answers and was visibly uncomfortable during questioning Sunday night after the Carolina Panthers' 24-10 loss to the Denver Broncos in Super Bowl 50, walked off the podium in response to a question that troubled him.

The NFL MVP went on to answer questions about his lackluster Super Bowl performance, his fourth quarter fumble and his decision to not speak to the media after the game, WSOC-TV reported.

"I've said it since day one: I am who I am, I know what I'm capable of and I know where I'm going. I don't have to conform to anyone else's wants. I'm not that guy. If you want me to be this type of person I'm not that and I'm happy to say that. I am my own person and I take pride in that."

Newton went on to say, "Who are you to say that your way is right? I have all of these people who are condemning and saying this that and the third but what makes your way right?"

Newton's coach, Ron Rivera, said he wasn't bothered by his quarterback's show of emotion on or off the field Sunday.

Newton said Tuesday he was undeterred by the criticism.

"I've got no more tears to cry. I've obviously had a lot of time to think about it. I've seen so much blown out of proportion."At the end of the day, when you invest so much time and sacrifice so much and things don't go as planned, the emotions take over. That's what happens. As far as trying to be like this person, trying to be like that person ... the truth of the matter is I'm not trying to be like this person."

The last comment could be directed at former Falcon and NFL Network Deion Sanders, who chastised Newton, when he said no other NFL quarterback would behave in such a way.
