Former Steelers great to coach with Bengals this summer

Last season former Steelers linebacker Kevin Greene helped coach the Bengals for a portion of training camp.

Kirkland played 11 seasons in the NFL, the first nine of which were with the Steelers from 1992-2000. Current Bengals head coach Marvin Lewis was Kirkland’s position coach from 1992-95, and current Bengals linebacker coach Jim Haslett was the Pittsburgh defensive coordinator from 1997-99.

In 18 games against the Bengals, Kirkland was 13-5 with two sacks and an interception.

The two-time Pro Bowler is currently the defensive coordinator and linebackers coach at Florida A&M. He will work with the Bengals during training camp.

The other four coaching interns are Aaron Curry, Roderick Plummer, Troy Woodbury and Johnathan Carr.

The fourth overall pick in 2009, Curry is the defensive line coach at Charlotte. He will work with the Bengals during OTAs, as will Plummer, the running backs coach at Florida A&M.

Woodbury is the offensive coordinator at Johnson C. Smith University. He will be with the team for minicamp and a portion of OTAs.

Carr is the offensive line and tight ends coach at Clark Atlanta University, and he will work the Bengals during training camp.

Two current Bengals coaches — Lewis and defensive line coach Jacob Burney — are products of the Walsh fellowship.
