Giancarlo Stanton nixed trade to Cardinals; won’t waive no-trade clause

National League Most Valuable Player Giancarlo Stanton was set to be a St. Louis Cardinal, until the Miami Marlin used the no-trade clause in his contract to stop the deal.

The Cardinals announced the nixed trade on the team’s Twitter account.

“While we are disappointed with his decision, we will continue to make every effort to improve our club for the upcoming season,” Cardinals chariman Bill De Witt Jr. said.

President of Baseball Ops John Mozeliak: “Unfortunately we were not able to Staton to waie his no-trade caluse and join the Cardinals. We felt this was a great landing spot for him, but it was not meant to be.”
