Golf: ICU nurse wins stroke play championship

A new name was added to the list of Dayton’s city golf champions last Sunday when Quinten Litteral won the stroke play championship on the Hawk course at Kittyhawk Golf Center.

Litteral is a 35-year-old ICU nurse at Kettering Medical Center. He and his wife, Tabitha, have a 2-year-old son, so he doesn’t have much time for golf.

He says he hits golf balls whenever he can but estimated that he’d only played about eight rounds this year.

Litteral played on the golf team at Carroll High School and made it to the district tournament twice, but he didn’t play on the Wright State University golf team when he attended WSU.

In the first round of the 36-hole event, Litteral posted a 76 and was in a four-way tie for third place behind Brandon Weiss (73) and Paul Day (74), each of whom has a pair of city titles..

On Sunday, while Weiss was struggling to a 77 and Day was shooting 76, Litteral posted the only par score of the event. His 72 made him a surprise winner. Then he went home to celebrate his 12th anniversary.

Ted Harker won the Senior Stroke Play title with a 146 score and Robert Rose defeated Steve Kircher for the Senior Match Play crown after ousting Greg Eldred and Steve Block.

Tommy Grawe won the boys junior match play Monday on the Hawk course and Mackenzie Donaldson won the girls event. Kyler Alvey was the boys junior winner on the Falcon course and Sarah Lehner was the girls champion.

Burritt runner-up

in women’s state am

Alyssa Burritt of Bellbrook, who won the Dayton Women’s Metropolitan Championship on July 22 at Heatherwoode Golf Club, came up with another strong performance in the state amateur sponsored by the Women’s Ohio State Golf Association.

Burritt, a sophomore at the University of Kentucky, was runner-up in the event played at Belmont Country Club in Perrysburg. She won four matches before losing to Ashley Au of Westerville, 3 and 2, in the final.

Seeded eighth after shooting 76 in the qualifying round, Burritt knocked off top-seeded Caroline Markley, 5 and 4, in the third round.
