High School football showcase set for Aug. 30

Eric Horstman, the founder of the prestigious Flyin’ to the Hoop basketball invitational, is hoping to build a similar showcase for high school football in the Miami Valley.

The inaugural Premier Health Backyard Blitz — pitting two Ohio teams against powers from Illinois and South Carolina — will take place Aug. 30 at Centerville High School.

The teams for the first event will be announced at a press conference Tuesday. The Dayton Daily News reported in January that the host Elks will be one of the four teams involved.

“We are going to start small and build up just like we did with Flyin’ to the Hoop to make sure all is done first class … with staying power,” Horstman, the president of Sports Image, the parent company of Flyin’ to the Hoop, said via e-mail.

Horstman said the goal for 2015 would be four games – one on Friday night and three on Saturday.
