Walk-off wins highlight Friday baseball, softball action

Carlisle 4, New Middletown Springfield 3, 11 inn.: The game stood 2-2 after two innings before both offenses were blanked over the next eight. New Middletown Springfield's Brandon Walters doubled home a run in the top of the 11th off reliever Matt Oney. However, the Indians (2-2) rallied in the bottom half of the inning as Tommy Pence laced an RBI knock to tie the game. With one out and the bases loaded, Reece Human came through with the walk-off RBI single.

Vandalia Butler 12, Springfield 11: Springfield clung to a 9-8 advantage before the Aviators (6-2) tallied three runs in the bottom of the sixth to take the lead. The Wildcats (2-2) grabbed the lead back in the top of the seventh with two runs. In the bottom of the seventh, Butler pinch-hitter Ben Slaton knocked in Dusty Lewis for the game-winner. Matt Harris and Kawambee Moss each had two doubles and 3 RBIs for Springfield. Damon Dues drove in three to lead Vandalia.

Spg. Shawnee sweeps Tecumseh: Shawnee toppled Tecumseh 10-2 in the completion of a rained out game from Monday. Seth Gray struck out 10 in four innings of work to earn the win. Gray also homered and drove in three runs. Tanner Vanvelzor doubled and had 3 RBIs for the Braves. In game two, Shawnee had to come from behind to knock off Tecumseh 5-4. Trailing by a run in the bottom of the sixth, Wes Doyle hit a sacrifice fly to tie the game. In the bottom of the seventh, Michael Guyer scored the game-winning run on a throwing error. Gray tossed the final three innings of game two to earn his second win.

Troy 9, Northmont 8: Troy rallied with three runs in the bottom of the seventh to win its fourth straight game. Ryan Lavy went 3-for-4 with a double and 2 RBIs for the Trojans (4-0) and Zach Thompson had two hits with 2 RBIs. Northmont was led by Mike Hale, who went 3-for-4 with a double and 3 RBIs. Mike Hale added a home run for the T-Bolts (1-5).

Wayne 4, Greenville 3: Jesse Wilson smacked a two-run single in the bottom of the sixth, plating Marland Miller and Jacob Bull for the winning runs. Andrew Collins picked up his first win for Wayne (5-3).

Springboro 8, West Carrollton 3: Jeremy Chapman scattered six hits over six innings of work, striking out seven to earn his second win. Jake Bourke led the Panthers with three hits, and Jack Pagliarini smacked a double and drove in two for 'Boro (6-1). Trevor Leon and Nolan Ridgeway each had two hits and an RBI for the Pirates (0-5).

Fort Loramie 2, Anna 1: The Redskins (2-2) evened their record as Grant Olberding struck out 13 and allowed just one hit to Anna, a double by Luke Albers.

SOFTBALL

Greenville defeats Troy, Beavercreek: Ally Russell's base hit in the bottom of the 7th allowed Greenville to defeat Troy 2-1 in game one of a split double header. The Green Wave (6-1) knocked off Beavercreek 12-2 in the nightcap. Russell earned her fifth and sixth wins of the season.

Dixie 4, Milton-Union 1: Dixie's Celeste Runnels struck out 8 to move to 3-0 on the season. Amara Wylie had a pair of hits and two stolen bases for the Greyhounds. Abby Bertke added a double, and Holly Flach had 2 RBIs.

Brookville 16, Valley View 5: Marissa Newsock was 3-for-3 with 3 RBIs and Alisha McGriff went 4-for-4 with a double and 5 RBIs to lead Brookville (3-1).
