Cedarville posts best D-III regional semis in boys 400, 4x400 relay

Cedarville posted the best finals qualifying times in two boys events during Wednesday’s Division III regional track and field meet at Memorial Stadium.

Cedarville senior Devin Gruet had the best 400 meters semifinal (49.75) and will be joined in Friday’s 400 final by sophomore teammate Brandon Pollock (51.15).

No surprise based on those results, Cedarville also posted the best 4x400 relay (3:29.60).

REGIONAL MEETS: Welcome Stadium (D-I), Piqua (D-II), Troy (D-III)

The top four regional placers in each event qualify to next week’s season-ending state meet at Ohio State University’s Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium in Columbus. None of the Springfield-area participants qualified to state during Wednesday’s first day of competition.

The meet resumes on Friday with the remaining field events at 5 p.m. and running finals at 6 p.m.

Wednesday’s Springfield-area finals results

Girls 4x800 relay: West Liberty-Salem, sixth, 9:59.15; Catholic Central, 10th, 10:24.53.

Boys 4x800 relay: WLS, 14th, 8:53.58; Cedarville, 16th, 9:08.59.

Boys discus: Charlies Bertemes, Southeastern, 7th, 134-6.

FOLLOWING DAD’S LEAD: Ansonia vaulter Brock Shellhaas 

Boys long jump: Joe Plumer, Yellow Springs, 7th, 19-9; Dan Tantlinger, Emmanuel Christian, 11th, 18-9; Wesley Williams, Cedarville, 15th, 18-1.25.

Boys pole vault: Joey Mascadri, Mechanicsburg, 7th, 12-0; Frank Magyar, Mechanicsburg, 12th, 10-6.

Girls high jump: Janie Kopus, WL-Salem, 10th, 4-10.

Girls shot put: Jasmine Davidson, Yellow Springs, 11th, 33-3.50.

Girls 4x200 relay: WL-S, 1:47.22.
