Fairfield’s Jackson Carman names surprise leader in recruiting race

Could Clemson be in position to steal the top football recruit in Ohio from Ohio State?

Fairfield five-star offensive tackle Jackson Carman, the No. 1 rated player in the state according to 247sports, tweeted Tuesday his leader is the South Carolina school that is the current home of college football’s national championship.

Carman made an unofficial visit to coach Dabo Swinney’s program Monday, and apparently it made a strong impression.

Carman, who visited Ohio State in January, listed a top 10 of Ohio State, Michigan State, Wisconsin, Clemson, USC, Notre Dame, Alabama, LSU, Florida and Tennessee in December.

He is one of a large group of area 2018 prospects getting a bevy of offers from Power 5 conferences this year, including a strong push by Crimson Tide coach Nick Saban.
