Cincinnati Bengals head coach Marvin Lewis talks about absence

After returning to work following an issue with his knee Tuesday night, Cincinnati Bengals head coach Marvin Lewis told reporters it was good to see them Wednesday afternoon and joked that it was his most looked forward to press conference ever.

“Luckily it wasn’t as serious as things could have been as originally I was told, so I was glad for that,” Lewis said. “The care I got from here and the concern from everyone is appreciated. I appreciate all the doctors, the technicians, the nurses, people that checked me in and out of Christ Hospital a couple of times.”

Lewis joked that he didn’t technically miss practice Tuesday, he just left early. He added that he didn’t need to have his swollen knee drained and that there are no restrictions moving forward, which means he will have no problem standing on the sideline for Friday night’s preseason opener against Tampa Bay at Paul Brown Stadium.

“It’s actually encouraged,” he said. “Walking is encouraged. Running is encouraged. The more I do, the better it will be. So there’s no problem with that. It began right away at 6 o’clock this morning, so it’s good.”
