Josh Tomlin retired the first two then gave up a mammoth home run to left field by the Cubs’ star third baseman, who only had two hits in the first five games of the series.
2. The Cubs added two more in the first when a fly ball fell between the center and right fielders. It was scored a double for Addison Russell, who drove in Anthony Rizzo and Ben Zobrist.

3. Russell blew the game open in the third inning with a grand slam to center field that drove home Kyle Schwarber, Rizzo and Zobrist. That made it 7-0.

4. The Indians loaded the bases in the fourth inning after getting a run-scoring single by Mike Napoli. But Tyler Naquin, the center fielder who let Russell’s ball drop in the first inning, struck out to end the scoring threat.
5. Cubs manager Joe Maddon surprised many observers in the seventh inning when he called upon Aroldis Chapman with one on and two out in the seventh inning. His club still had a five-run lead, but Maddon explained afterward to Fox Sports’ Tom Verducci he felt he needed his closer to face the meat of the Cleveland lineup.
Why did Joe Maddon bring in Aroldis Chapman tonight?

His first pitch resulted in a groundout by star Indians shortstop Francisco Lindor that ended the inning, although Chapman appeared to tweak his right knee covering first base for the out.
Chapman gave up a hit in the eighth but got an inning-ending double-play ball from Yan Gomes.
