Middletown’s Petty, Smith first in D-I district track

Marquise Petty and Conant Smith both won individual events to highlight Middletown’s boys in the Division I high school district track and field meet at Welcome Stadium.

Petty, a senior, won the long jump (22 feet, 11 inches) this past Wednesday. Smith, a sophomore, won the 3,200 meters on Friday night.

The top four in each event advance to next week’s D-I regional also at Welcome Stadium.

NO BEATING CENTERVILLE: Elks sweep boys, girls D-I district titles again

Placing second for the Middies boys was the 4x200 relay of De’Yon Brown, Shandon Morris, DeCameron Holloman and Petty (1:31.34). Thirds were earned by Morris in the high jump (6-0) and Keion Williams in the shot put (47-9.50).

The 4x400 relay of Seth Bennett, Morris, Petty and Williams added a fourth (3:27.97.

Middletown was fourth in two girls events: Randi Hendriex-Long in the 400 (1:02.84) and the 4x200 relay of Glenn White, Jamella Wilson, Makina Gibson and Hendriex-Long (1:50.04).

Centerville edged Miamisburg 118.5-116.5 to win the boys team title. The Elks’ girls also rallied to win, 107.5-75.5 runner-up Fairmont. It was Centerville’s 11th consecutive boys district title and fifth straight girls championship. Middletown was fifth among boys.

Next week’s D-I regional is Wednesday and Friday. The top four regional placers in each event advance to the season-ending state meet at Ohio State University’s Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium in Columbus on June 2-3.
