NCAA Tournament: Field set for First Four games at UD Arena

The First Four will have more local interest than usual this year with the University of Cincinnati awaiting the winner of one of those games.

South Region No. 11 seeds Kansas State (20-13) and Wake Forest (19-13) will battle at 9:10 p.m. Tuesday for the right to advance to play UC (29-5) Friday in Sacramento.

Wednesday’s 9:10 p.m. game between at-large teams will pit East Region No. 11 seeds Providence (20-12) against USC (24-9), with the winner advancing to play No. 6 SMU on Friday in Tulsa.

The First Four opens with East Region No. 16 seeds Mount St. Mary’s (19-15) and New Orleans (20-11) at 6:40 p.m. Tuesday. The winner moves on to play No. 1 overall seed Villanova (31-3) on Thursday in Buffalo.

Wednesday’s first game will feature UC Davis making its NCAA tournament debut when the Aggies (22-12) take on North Carolina Central (25-8) in a matchup of Midwest Region No. 16 seeds. The winner will take on No. 1 Kansas on Friday in Tulsa.
