OSU’s Pat Elflein: “I don’t think you could write a better journey for me”

Not much distance separates Pat Elflein’s hometown of Pickerington from Columbus, but he’s come a long way in five years.

After verbally committing to Luke Fickell, the interim coach of the Buckeyes during the summer of 2011, Elflein admitted he had to convince Urban Meyer he deserved a shot after Meyer was hired that fall.

Five years later, Elflein, the three-star recruit, is a three-year starter for the Buckeyes.

Already an All-Big Ten selection, Elflein was tabbed an All-American by Sporting News this week.

So the 2016 Big Ten Offensive Lineman of the Year will have a tree in the Buckeye Grove, and Thursday night he could add something else to his bio: Rimington Award winner, emblematic of the nation’s best center.

He talked about his journey Tuesday night.
