Recruiting roundup: Alabama offers another area star on the rise

The past week was a good one for Tavion Thomas.

The Dunbar running back moved up to a four-star prospect (via 247sports rankings) and received an offer from Alabama.

Per 247, Thomas is planning to visit Ohio State and Cincinnati this weekend.

He already had offers from Wisconsin, UC, Kentucky, Indiana, Michigan State and West Virginia, among others.

Teammate Joseph Scates has already committed to the Spartans, who annually make a strong push into Ohio for prospects and signed Josiah Scott out of Fairfield in February…

The offers keep rolling in for Xenia’s Meechie Harris.

The Buccaneers receiver added two Big Ten offers and one from the Big 12 this week as Minnesota, Purdue and West Virginia threw their hats in the ring.

That makes 11 offers in all for the junior.

He has previously visited Ohio State and Cincinnati and has plans to return to the Queen City this weekend for another Bearcats’ junior day.

Harris was fifth in the GWOC last season with 663 yards on 41 catches.

He returned two punts and two kickoffs for touchdowns as Xenia posted a 3-7 record…

Thomas and Harris won’t be the only area players heading south this weekend.

Wayne defensive end Alex Reigelsperger and Fairfield defensive end Malik Vann have also shared they plan to see what new coach Luke Fickell has to offer Saturday.

Fickell, the former Ohio State assistant, seems to be building a lot of momentum early.

He also welcomed a large group of prospects to campus last month when the Bearcat basketball team topped Xavier in the Crosstown Shootout.

Vann, who was offered by Minnesota on Tuesday, also plans to visit Alabama next week.

Crimson Tide coach Nick Saban visited Vann and five-star Fairfield offensive lineman Jackson Carman in January.

Carman added an offer from the Miami Hurricanes this week.

Lakota West defensive lineman Tyler Bentley is visiting Louisville on Saturday — one week after teammate Steven Faucheux visited Michigan State (according to Scout.com).

Although he is only a sophomore, Faucheux has six offers — UC, Iowa State, Kentucky, Louisville, Maryland and Tulane.

A third Firebird, junior linebacker Xavier Peters, also makes the roundup this week thanks to an offer from Oklahoma.

One of the players we featured last week -- Sidney defensive lineman Devan Rogers -- is back this week after earning an offer from Kent State, while Mason defensive lineman Zaid Hamden joins our list of 2018 area prospects thanks to an offer from Eastern Michigan.
