Recruiting roundup: Alabama offers Springfield pair, Dunbar LB narrows choices, Lakota West prospects rising

We start off this area football recruiting roundup like many of the previous ones: Alabama has offered two more local stars.

This time Nick Saban’s Crimson Tide are looking to add a pair of players from a school that has already sent a standout to Tuscaloosa: Springfield.

Leonard Taylor, a defensive end/tight end who also played quarterback for the Wildcats last year as a junior, and 2019 defensive back Moses Douglass both reported getting Alabama offers last week.

Douglass, whose father, Maurice, is the head coach of Wildcats, told Scout.com he is working on plans to attend the Tide's camp this summer.

"The offer from Alabama means a lot to be honest, and I see all the players they put in the NFL," Douglass stated. "They have so many talented players on the roster now, and their coaching staff is great. I like the way they run their program."

He also reportedly has offers from Michigan, Kentucky, Indiana and Iowa, among others.

Taylor has been a highly sought-after prospect for quite some time. He initially committed to Michigan before reopening his recruitment last year.

He told this news organization in March he would not rush his decision this time around.

The last Wildcat to go to Alabama was Trey DePriest, an All-SEC linebacker in 2014 who won a pair of national titles with the Crimson Tide...

Another former Michigan commit, Antwuan Johnson, recently narrowed his college choices to nine.

The Dunbar linebacker is still considering Kentucky, Syracuse, Louisville, Purdue, Iowa, Arkansas, Indiana, Cincinnati and Miami.

Two of his teammates – running back Tavion Thomas and receiver Joseph Scates – are among the more than half dozen area 2017 area prospects who have Alabama offers.

That group also includes Fairfield teammates Jackson Carman and Malik Vann (a UC commit) and Wayne receiver L'Christian "Blue" Smith.

Another rising prospect in the City League is Jadon Rucker-Furlow of Belmont.

A three-star 2017 defensive back prospect, he recently received an offer from the University of Cincinnati.

According to Scout.com, Rucker-Furlow was among the players who stood out at the Under Armour All-America Camp in Cincinnati on April 29.

There Trotwood-Madison receiver William McDaniel was named one of the top 12 performers on offense while Lakota West teammates Steven Faucheux and Xavier Peters were among the top 12 on defense.

That pair of Firebirds have continued to add big-time offers all spring.

Scout rates Peters the No. 1 inside linebacker in Ohio and No. 6 nationally at the position.

Faucheux is a four-star prospect for 2019 who also recently added an Alabama offer to go with a handful from Power 5 schools.

Peters and fellow Firebird Tyler Bentley visited Alabama last month...

How Cincinnati’s class ultimately looks is going to be fascinating.

New Bearcats coach Luke Fickell already has a commitment from Fairfield’s Vann, a four-star defensive end, and multiple local prospects with Power 5 conference school offers regularly share their appreciation with the attention from UC on social media….

Finally, it's time to add another player to the big board as Centerville tight end/linebacker Sam Vance has joined the list of area players with an FBS offer.

Army and Ball State are on the board for Vance, who had 45 tackles last season for the Elks.

The Black Knights also became suitors for Mason lineman Zaik Hamdan, while fellow Comet Eric Miller has reported new offers from Harvard, Dartmouth, Holy Cross, Appalachian State and Western Kentucky.
