HS Roundup 2/17: Northmont boys down Beavercreek

Dawson Walker hit a shot as time expired to ensure the win for Northmont, as they bested Beavercreek 57-55.

Jabari Perkins netted 13 points on the night, including the game-tying three-pointer with eight seconds to go.

Jon Alessandro led all scorers with 14 points in the ‘Creek loss.

Northmont goes on to face Fairborn on Friday, February 23 at 6 p.m. in the first round of the Division I sectionals tournament.

Beavercreek will face Franklin at 8:30 p.m. Friday.

Boys Basketball

Fairmont 84, Ponitz 58: Damonte Bailey shot for a double-double with 12 points and 11 rebounds. Eric Sealey tacked on another double-double with 17 points and 11 rebounds.

Northmont 57, Beavercreek 55: Dawson Walker sunk a buzzer beat to win the game for Northmont. Jabari Perkins led with 13 points in the win, while Jon Alessandro netted 14 in the losing effort.

Oakwood 71, West Carrollton 44: Darren Rubin put up 22 points in the win. Jalen Sanders netted 10 for West Carrollton.

Dayton Christian 78, Twin Valley South 52: Matt Welker scored a career high 40 points in the DC win. Anton Webb tacked on a double-double with 14 points and 15 rebounds. Jayden Bassler tallied 15 in the loss.

Troy Christian 66, Bethel 60, OT: James Anderson netted 20 points and nine rebounds for the near double-double. Ben Schenk added on 17.

Lima Perry 62, Botkins 49: Spencer Heuker tallied 18 points in the Botkins loss.

Coldwater 54, Wapakoneta 49: Cole Frilling scored 13 points in the win. Myles Blasingame chipped in nine.

Crestview 68, New Knoxville 45: Nathan Tinnerman netted 13 points in the losing effort.

Minster 63, Spencerville 39: Isaac Schmiesing and Mike Ketner combined for 18 points in the victory over Spencerville.

Girls Basketball

Sectional Tournament

Centerville 65, Stebbins 20: Amy Velasco and Jasmine Broner combined for 20 points in the win.

Springfield 52, Troy 41: Springfield earned their first OHSAA tournament since opening in 2008. Mickayla Perdue led with 19 points in the D-I win. Tia Bass had 16 for Troy.

Wilmington 65, Talawanda 47: Addie Brown set a school record for Talawanda for most points in a single season with 491 points. Brown put up 29 in the losing effort. Mya Jackson had 28 for Wilmington.

Carroll 52, Bellefontaine 26: Julia Keller tallied 12 points in the win. Allie Stefanek and Ava Lickliter tacked on 10 each.

Kenton Ridge 81, Ponitz 59: Mikala Morris shot for almost half of Kenton Ridge’s points in the win, netting 40 on the night.

Bellbrook 59, Thurgood Marshall 14: Kayla Paul put up 10 points in the D-II victory over Thurgood. Olivia Greathouse tacked on nine. Taylor Dunson led with five in the loss.

Versailles 76, Dixie 32: McKinlee Ruppert tallied 17 points in the D-III sectionals loss.

Covington 57, National Trail 40: Victoria Lyle scored 15 points, while Samantha Whiteman tacked on 14 in the Division IV win. Evan Byrd led National Trail with 12.

Franklin Monroe 44, Catholic Central 25: Corina Conley netted a double-double with 18 points and 13 rebounds in the Division IV sectionals win. Abbigail Peterson and Taylor Baker tallied seven points in the loss.

Tri-Village 79, Jefferson 8: Lissa Siler added 17 points to her season total in the win.

Fort Loramie 69, Ansonia 20: Marissa Meiring netted 14 points in the D-IV sectional victory. Trinity Henderson put up nine for Ansonia.

Botkins 49, Mechanicsburg 36: Paige Lane put up 21 points in the sectional victory. Kasey Schipfer had 12 for ‘Burg in the loss.

Triad 48, Jackson Center 46: Alea Ferguson shot for 14 points, sinking four from the three-point line in the win. Frani LeVan added on 11 points, four rebounds and two assists.

Hockey

Springboro 3, Elder 2, 2OT: Slade Surikov netted the game-winning goal with 50 seconds left in the second overtime.

Wrestling

CBC Tournament, Kenton Trail: Tecumseh took home second place overall with 153.5 points, winning the Kenton Trail division title.

CBC Tournament, Mad River: Graham won the CBC Mad River division title and overall tournament with 305.5 points. D’artagnan Spitler earned the CBC sportsmanship award.

GCLC Tournament: Chaminade Julienne took home the conference championship with 272.0 points. Carroll, Alter and Badin followed suit. CJ had six first place finishers.

OHC Championship: Major Stratton placed second at 195 for West Liberty-Salem, moving to 30-4 on the season. All three of Trenton Douthwaithe’s wins game by pin as he took third at 126.

SWBL Tournament: Valley View, Eaton and Oakwood placed in the top three respectively. Ethan Mayo, Joey Dima, Stone Day and Trent Wilson all took home championships for VV. Carston King won at 152 for Oakwood.

SWOC Tournament: Ross took home second overall with 173.0 points. Edgewood came in fourth with 133.0.

Boys Bowling

GWOC Championship: Beavercreek took home the overall and tournament championship. Butler’s Drew Sacks rolled the high series of 707.

Girls Bowling

GWOC Championship: Troy won the overall season title, while Miamisburg won the postseason championship match. Keirsten Schooler rolled the high series of 631 for Fairmont.

Gymnastics

Dayton City Championships: Miamisburg placed first overall with a record score of 140.35. Leah Myers took home second all around and Keala McCurry fourth.
