HAL McCOY: A night to remember
Gennett’s night started with an RBI single in the first inning. He hit a grand slam in the third, a two-run home run in the fourth, a solo home run in the sixth and a two-run home run in the eighth.
Gennett tied the club record with 10 RBIs. Walker Cooper had 10 RBIs on July 6, 1949. The fourth home run gave the Reds a 13-1 lead in the eighth.
There were 16. You can add one to that list.@SGennett2 is the 17th player EVER to hit four homers in a game: https://t.co/Z4a8opJNkz pic.twitter.com/Fvk0qWZ1wX

Four home runs in one game is the one of the rarest achievements in baseball. Gennett is the 17th player in baseball history to do it and the first since Josh Hamilton, who hit four with the Texas Rangers in 2012.

Prior to this game, Gennett had three home runs this season and 38 in his career. No player in baseball history had hit four home runs with fewer career home runs.
Gennett and Mark Whiten, of the Cardinals, are the only players to hit a grand slam and three other home runs in a game. Whiten hit four home runs, including a grand slam, against the Reds in 1993 in Cincinnati.
On Monday, Gennett snapped an 0-for-19 slump with a two-run double in the seventh, breaking a 2-2 tie as the Reds beat the Cardinals 4-2.

The Reds acquired Gennett off waivers from the Milwaukee Brewers on March 28. He debuted in 2013 with the Brewers and had played his entire career with them. He has started 20 games for the Reds and made appearances at second base, third base, left field and right field.
The Reds (27-30) moved a half game ahead of the Cardinals (26-30).
NO WAY.
