Second Thoughts: ‘Red Rifle’ needs to start shooting straight

Knucklehead of the Week

DeMarcus Cousins is a piece of work. The Sacramento Kings star received a one-game suspension for elbowing Al Horford in the head during a game last week. This comes on the heels of Cousins’ locker-room rant against Kings coach George Karl. Cousins reportedly ripped into Karl in front of the entire team, mixing in some very hurtful words. Hopefully Karl found a safe space. About the only thing missing from this trifecta of stupidity is Cousins going on Twitter claiming all of this was just a big misunderstanding.

Impressive win by UD over William & Mary. You never want to lose to a team that starts a player with a man bun. Next stop is a tournament in Orlando. The Flyers take on Iowa on Thanksgiving night, 9 o’clock tip. Better take a nap after chowing down on turkey.

Bengals quarterback Andy Dalton needs to grow some thick skin. After Cincinnati lost to the Texans last Monday, Houston star J.J. Watt said his team's goal was to "make the Red Rifle look like a Red Ryder BB Gun." Clever and funny. Need more of that in sports.

Dalton took exception to the comment, questioning Watt’s “integrity.” He later tried to walk it back but only dug a deeper hole when he said he didn’t understand the context of the interview. That made no sense. Fact is, NBC wouldn’t have interviewed Watt if the Bengals offense would’ve shown up. Dalton is in the primetime spotlight again tonight in Arizona. Hopefully he won’t respond like a rookie.

What a great sports day. The family is planning on checking out the UD women's basketball team, which hosts Wisconsin at 2 p.m. today. No reason why there shouldn't be a big crowd at UD Arena. We'll see you there.

After watching some hoops, it’ll be time for the Vikings-Packers game, followed by Bengals-Cardinals. I’m guessing Carson Palmer will be one motivated quarterback.

UD's football team finds out today where it plays in the first round of the FCS playoffs. One mock bracket has the Flyers taking on Northern Iowa. UD takes a 10-1 record into the postseason but will be a huge underdog. The Pioneer League is the only FCS league that doesn't offer athletic scholarships. Northern Iowa gives out 63.

The Air Force Marathon announced that the CV-22 "Osprey" will be the featured aircraft at next year's 26-plus mile race at Wright-Patt. I predict that the Osprey, which can take off vertically, will easily win. Unless there are Kenyans entered.

Trending up: Kristaps Porzingis, Don Donoher, Bryce Harper. Porzingis, an athletic 7-foot-3 rookie from Latvia, is quickly becoming the most popular athlete in New York. This guy who was booed by Knicks fans during the NBA draft. They weren't booing when he dropped 29 points on Charlotte.

Trending down: Ronda Rousey, Peyton Manning, Terrence Cody. So Rousey is human. The formerly undefeated and untouched UFC women's champion was a punching bag in her title bout against Holly Holm. That loss, though, will pay off for Rousey. A rematch with Holm will be worth millions.
