NFL Hall of Famer calls out Bengals coach Marvin Lewis

Shannon Sharpe says Lewis is ‘absolutely wrong’ about new NFL celebration rules

Add Shannon Sharpe to the list of people who disagree with Cincinnati Bengals coach Marvin Lewis's comments about the NFL relaxing the celebration rules.

On Wednesday’s episode of the Fox Sports blabfest “Undisputed” with co-host Skip Bayless, Sharpe said Lewis is “absolutely wrong.”

“Marvin Lewis is absolutely wrong,” Shapre said. “Skip, I love Marvin. You know I know Marvin. Was with him for two years in Baltimore when he was the defensive coordinator, and I can make the case that’s the greatest defense ever assembled for one year. But Skip, he’s wrong with this. If the worst thing we say about a player, or parents say about a player, is that ‘I don’t like that celebration,’ I think the players have done a great job.”

Sharpe tried to highlight the irony of Lewis’ comments by mentioning a handful of players on the Bengals roster.

“How can Marvin say this when he has Pacman Jones, Vontaze Burfict, and they just signed Joe Mixon? Now all these guys deserve a second chance. I have no problem with that. I gave Marvin a lot of props for stepping out when it was very unpopular and signing these guys. But you say you want to teach the youth examples? And you have those three guys on your roster? And you’re concerned about celebrations?”
