Springfield fell 79-72 at Trotwood-Madison on Friday. A No. 2 seed in the upcoming Division I sectional at Centerville, Springfield landed a first-round bye and will play the Piqua/Springboro winner in its postseason opener at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 27.

Kenton Ridge girls 81, Ponitz 59: Junior Mikala Morris scored a career-high 40 points and the Cougars snapped a three-game losing skid in a D-II sectional opener at Tecumseh on Saturday. Desiree Jones added a season-high 18 points for Kenton Ridge and Mallory Armentrout 13.
Kenton Ridge (13-10) will play CBC rival Shawnee (17-6) in a sectional semifinal at 7:30 p.m. Thursday at Tecumseh. Shawnee advanced with a 39-25 defeat of Eaton in its tourney opener also on Saturday. Shawnee swept Kenton Ridge in the two-game, regular-season CBC Kenton Trail Division play.
