Texas Rangers to give Mike Hauschild chance in spring training

Former Dayton pitcher selected from Astros in 16th round of Rule 5 Draft

The Texas Rangers selected former Dayton Flyers pitcher Mike Hauschild with the 16th pick in the first round of the Rule 5 Draft on Thursday.

The Beavercreek High School graduate Hauschild, 25, has pitched in the Houston Astros organization since 2012 when he was a 33rd-round pick. Hauschild made his Triple-A debut in 2015 and pitched in Triple-A all of last season. He was 9-10 with a 3.22 ERA in 24 starts with Fresno in the Pacific Coast League.

In five seasons in the minors, Hauschild is 36-32 with a 3.50 ERA.

"We like the strikes and the forkball-like change," Rangers General Manager Jon Daniels told the Houston Chronicle. "We're going to let him compete for the fifth spot in the rotation, but he might also help in the bullpen."
