UIC blanks Wright State softball in HL tournament

Top-seed Illinois-Chicago made a couple of early runs stand up Thursday for a 2-0 victory against Wright State in the Horizon League tournament.

The loss drops the fourth-seeded Raiders into the losers bracket, where they are scheduled to face No. 5 seed Detroit in an elimination game Thursday night. WSU beat the Titans 2-1 in eight innings in the first round.

Becka Peterson had two of the four hits for the Raiders (21-30), while Libby Pfeffer and Kate Pfeffer each had one.

UIC (36-20) scored two runs in the third, only one of which was earned, off WSU starter Ashley Sharp. Ally Russell pitched 2.2 innings of shutout relief.
