USADA: UFC women’s star ‘Cyborg’ allegedly fails drug test

Cris 'Cyborg' Justino, the 145-pound women's mixed-martial-arts star was flagged by the U.S. Anti-Doping Agency for a 'potential violation."

UFC released a statement Thursday, stating: “The UFC organization was formally notified that (USADA) informed Cristiane ‘Cyborg’ Justino of a potential Anti-Doping Policy violation stemming from an out-of-competition sample collection on Dec. 5.

“It is important to note, under UFC anti-doping policy, there is a full fair legal review process that is afforded to all athletes before any sanctions are imposed. “

Justino failed a drug test in 2012 prior to joining UFC. She’s had a verbal rivalry with UFC star and celeb A-lister Ronda Rousey for years, with the two arguing over a potential fight. Justino fights a class above Rousey at 145 pounds and was considered the promotion’s best featherweight fighter. The company was building its Women’s Featherweight Championship tournament around Justino, but she didn’t make weight for the February event and turned down specific dates for the fight. She wanted to fight again in March.

With the possibility of her second failed test looming, it’s doubtful she ever fights Rousey, as Rousey has refused to fight her at a catch weight. The test could doom her goal of holding a women’s UFC title at her chosen weight.

Justino became a naturalized American citizen on Dec. 13 in Los Angeles.
